Laphroaig An Cuan Mor – a Wintry Dram

At long last, we have a wintry day in Tel Aviv, and that put me in the mood for some Laphroig. I’m sure some of you will laugh to hear that winter here means intermittent rain and 15C degrees (59F), but for us this is a winter wonderland 🙂

One of the newer Laphroaig expressions limited to travel retail is the An Cuan Mor, a NAS expression matured in first fill American oak casks and then finished in European oak. Good whisky, though not remarkable, the sherry finish works quite well.

Laphroaig An-CUAN-mor (48% ABV, NCF, NC)

Appearance: Gold with a slight reddish tinge, thick legs.

Nose: A fireplace, a bonfire just starting out, honey, burnt dried fruit and over time a cognac-like nose develops.

Palate: Heavy dirty peat – not gentle, sweetness in a bonfire, sherry notes and some bitter citrus notes.

Linger: Long. Peaty and sweet right down the center of the tongue.

Conclusion

There are some really good expressions in Laphroaig’s NAS range. The Triple Wood, Quarter Cask and PX Cask come to mind and the An CUAN mor falls into this range.

I enjoyed this dram with my favorite Vet, Dr. Raviv who opened this bottle when I visited – Slainte!
